I was born in Flushing, NY, and grew up mostly in Northern New Jersey.
After graduating high school, I moved to New York City, where I attended the "Latin American Institute," studied Business French, lived at a YWCA, and worked through school at E. J. Korvette on 5th Avenue.
Living in New York City as a young adult was eye-opening. It taught me that life was way more interesting than I thought. I went to the theater, ballet, symphony, art galleries, and more with an international group of friends. We had picnics in Central Park while watching Shakespeare in the Park. It was affordable because we did it all in the late 60s and early 70s.
Jazzy Lady
My love of music, especially Jazz, began in NYC. I had a date who took me to the Rainbow Grill at Rockefeller Center for dinner. Our table was front and center, and the entertainment for the evening was the Modern Jazz Quartet. I don't remember anything else about the date, not the food or the person I was with, but I fell in love with the MJQ and their brand of Jazz. You'll see that reflected in my art.
My experience
I lived and worked in many parts of this country and had several careers in sales and marketing, first in the travel industry, then the personal computer industry.
It was time to move on when the tech industry hit the wall, so I relocated to Delaware and searched for new opportunities. At the 2000 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, I met my husband, Bill Bell!
I became a REALTOR and focused on building a business that led to the creation of an independent brokerage, Active Adults Realty, in Delaware.
My Art
After years of visiting the Keys, we sold our business and home in Delaware and moved here full-time in 2021. Many of my real estate clients pursued their art after retiring from other careers. When I retired, they encouraged me to pursue painting myself. I had always gravitated to colorful abstract works and images influenced by music, specifically Jazz and Blues. So, it is natural that many of my works are conceptual reflections of music and movement, and the City of New York has influenced my abstract art and collage.
Living in the Florida Keys has inspired me with the ever-changing colors of the sky and the water, fish and birds. My medium is acrylic and some mixed media, and my style is abstract.
